How to Clean Lawn Mower Air Filter

Filters are a very important part of engines and they can control the dirt, and other particulars to enter the engine from the carburetor after some time filter gets dirty and in deteriorated condition so it is very important to replace the filter or to clean it after some time. Many people ask questions about, how to clean a dirty Air filter, so, I elaborate on the cleaning steps of a dirty air filter in the below paragraphs.

TYPES OF FILTERS USED IN LAWN MOWERS

There are two types of filters used in lawnmowers:

  1. Paper Air Filter
  2. Foam Air Filter

CLEANING OF PAPER AIR FILTER- How to Clean Lawn Mower Air Filter

Paper filters are made up of compressed fiber and it is much possible that the filter has deteriorated and you need to replace it on time. However, if the filter is not broken or deteriorated then you may use this step to clean the Paper air filter.

Step 1: TURN OFF THE LAWNMOWER

In the first step, you need to Turn OFF the lawnmower, and cut off the power, and in the case of a battery-powered lawnmower, you need to cut off the battery supply.

Step 2: SEPERATE THE AIR FILTER FROM HOUSING

After Turning OFF the supply, you need to pull out the filter from the housing. Carefully open the housing and cover of the filter and then remove the filter.

Step 3: INSPECTION OF FILTER

In this step visually inspect the filter, if there is any hole or broken part then you don’t need to clean the filter and you must replace the filter with a new one. If you see that filter is fine and just dirty then you start cleaning it.

Step 4: CLEANING OF FILTER

Now start cleaning your air filter, first need to clear the dirt by tapping out (three and four times) it in the earth. After this now use the air gun and blow the filter gently and thoroughly to wipe out all the dust.

Step 5: RE-INSTALL THE PAPER AIR FILTER

After cleaning, inspect it if there is any damage that occurs during the cleaning. After checking re-install the filter in the filter housing. Now your machine is ready to start again.

CLEANING OF FOAM AIR FILTER – How to Clean Lawn Mower Air Filter

Cleaning of the foam air filter is slightly different from the cleaning air filter. Foam filters also need oiling and due to this, these filters are more soiled and dirty as compared to paper air filters.

Step 1: PULL OUT THE FILTER

In the very first step, you need to Turn OFF the lawnmower and pull out the foam filter from the cover/housing.

Step 2: CLEAR THE DIRT FROM THE FILTER

Now you need to blow off the dirt using an air gun, and gently blow the dirt through the air gun thoroughly.

Step 3: SPRAY THE CLEANER

After clearing the dirt from the filter, now spray the cleaner on the foam filter and cover all the foam filter and wait that I get dry for 20 minutes.

Step 4: RINSE THE CLEANING MATERIAL

In this step, you need to rinse the cleaning spray from the foam filter using water. If you feel the filter is not properly clear you may apply the cleaner again and then rinse it again.

Step 5: NOW OIL THE FILTER

After drying the foam filter now apply the oil in the filter and squeeze it so it is properly dispersed in all the filter.

Step 6: re-install the filter

After applying oil and removing the extra oil from the filter, reinstall the filter in the filter housing.
